Invisalign has revolutionized the way that adults (and some teenagers) straighten their teeth. This approach to orthodontic treatment utilizes comfortable and discreet appliances to move teeth. Patients who wear Invisalign enjoy inconspicuous orthodontic treatment.
Kessler Dental Associates is an Invisalign provider. Our Invisalign patients have enjoyed an effective and comfortable treatment with beautiful results.
How Invisalign Works
Moving teeth to healthier positions require consistent yet gentle force and pressure. Conventional braces use appliances like brackets and wires to generate gentle force. This force will move teeth to straighter positions over time.
Traditional braces require fixed oral appliances, something that Invisalign does not. Instead of bonding brackets to teeth and connecting them to archwire, Invisalign generates force through removable oral appliances made of plastic. These appliances are called aligners, and every two weeks, a patient in treatment will switch to a tighter set. As aligners become progressively tighter, they will accommodate new tooth positioning and generate the pressure necessary to continue tooth movement.
Since everyone’s orthodontic needs are unique, treatment times vary from person to person. Those whose teeth require more movement than others will typically see longer treatment times than those with less obvious orthodontic concerns.
After treatment is complete, patients will need to wear retainers as directed by our dentists. Retainers are necessary to preserve your investment in your oral health.
Benefits of Invisalign
Invisalign’s oral appliances are removable and clear – giving patients the benefits of discreet treatment without obstructing oral function and oral hygiene. This means that patients take out their aligners for meals, brushing, and flossing. With Invisalign, patients enjoy their favorite foods and the peace of mind that their orthodontic appliances won’t prevent them from thoroughly cleaning their teeth.
An added advantage to Invisalign is the fact that aligners are made from plastic with smooth edges. Aligners will not cut into or scrape against soft oral tissue the way that fixed orthodontic components can.
The Power of Orthodontics
Having a straight smile presents more benefits than just an improved appearance. While having straight teeth certainly gives us an aesthetic advantage, it is important to know that orthodontic treatment improves our oral health and lowers our risks for common dental conditions.
When our teeth are rotated and crowded, they are difficult to keep clean. Tartar accumulation is common among patients with spacing issues because cleaning between teeth and along the gums is more cumbersome. If our teeth are properly spaced, we enjoy reduced risks for common issues like worn dentition, tooth decay, and gum disease.
Kessler Dental Associates strives to improve our patients’ self-esteem and confidence with treatment options that protect oral health.
